That alliance is the relentless juggernaut we’re up against. That powerful political alliance recently succeeded in getting the majority of county supervisor votes to secure compulsory in-home medication in San Francisco and both Oakland and Berkeley in Alameda County - arguably three of the most politically progressive cities in the United States! The incredibly politically successful (and I’d say unholy) alliance of NAMI, Big Pharma and the APA (which represents 25,000 medical/disease model psychiatrists) are now targeting Sacramento and Santa Cruz county politicians to also vote for the option of in-home forced medication treatment under Laura’s Law. It’s very ominous that under California’s Laura’s Law, Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin and San Francisco counties in the Bay Area, and many other California counties including giant LA County, have chosen the option of forcing people to take meds in their own homes or be in violation of a court order. It’s based on New York’s Kendra’s Law, where the police can and do actually show up at the door in New York to escort the “patient” to the clinic for their antipsychotic medication injection if they have not kept their medication appointments. In California the governing statute is called Laura’s Law. Like California, almost every state now has some version of in-home compulsory court-ordered medication treatment based on state law, so that medication compliance for people in extreme states in the community can be ordered by the court. They intend to use the new digital monitoring form of Abilify to control people’s “antipsychotic” dosing compliance from inside their own bodies, something that I believe would even make dystopian visionaries George Orwell and Aldous Huxley shudder.Ĭonditions are very ripe for such oppression in California right now, because there is an even more oppressive mental health services “best practice” model and standard of care for people in extreme states that is emerging based on forced in-home treatment or AOT. I also see tragic personal injury coming via its supporters’ treacherous intent. I see that tragic injury coming not just through the emotion-neutralizing drug effects themselves, which have been documented here on MIA by myself and many others (see my “ Enslaved to Abilify” blog). So, these are some of my personal concerns about the deteriorating human rights situation for people in extreme states here, that are now multiplied by my profound fears about how the new digital Abilify will be used as a powerful weapon to even further trap, demoralize and abuse vulnerable people. But as we passionately work to bring heart-centered resources forward, the conditions here in Northern California for people trapped in the various county and state mental health and prison systems are growing bleaker by the day. Our efforts on the Gnosis Project are bolstered by many volunteers and yearly large public weeklong events at Esalen Institute focusing on the living legacy of RD Laing. The Gnosis Project group is led by fellow MIA blogger and good friend Michael Guy Thompson, who worked with Laing in London for several years. My blog “ Remembering a Medication-Free Madness Sanctuary” tells of my years serving at the IWard sanctuary, and about my research on Diabasis House and my connection with Loren Mosher of Soteria too.įor some years recently I’ve been involved with an RD Laing-inspired group called the Gnosis Project, that is just now starting up an off-the-grid in-home support service for people in extreme states, as well as planning the opening of a Laingian style 24/7 residential sanctuary. All three of those sanctuaries were actually open at the same time here in the Bay Area. I’ve seen the growing unified political power of NAMI, the APA and its disease model paradigm of psychiatry, plus the cash flow from Big Pharma, totally destroy the existence of compassionate, medication-free sanctuaries for people in extreme states - places like Soteria House, IWard, and Diabasis House. I’ve been a dissident therapist with lived experience of extreme states in the SF Bay Area since 1980. I believe that this new Orwellian pharmaceutical instrument of invasive individual and social control will serve to usher in an even more desolate landscape of oppression and human suffering. The FDA approved the prescribing and sale of this new hi-tech compliance-monitoring “antipsychotic” drug this week. In 2015 I wrote an MIA article called “ Medication Mechanization: Microchip Sensors in Abilify to Increase Medication Compliance.” The article warned about the FDA considering approval of a new form of Abilify that carries a microchip inside to send digital information about its time-stamped ingestion to prescribers, and also potentially to family members and legal authorities. "We are excited to announce this exclusive long-term Payday 3 co-publishing deal with Koch Media who shares our passion for the Payday franchise and the games as a service model," Starbreeze CEO Tobias Sjögren said. You can see a new image of Payday 3 above. The franchise has proven to be extremely successful with 28 million "installed base games" so far. The news release also mentions that Starbreeze remains the owner of the Payday IP. Starbreeze Studios says it expects to release its next full Payday game by 2023. The game isn't releasing anytime soon, however, as it's slated to debut in 2023 on console and PC. Thanks to this investment, Payday 3 is now "fully financed," Starbreeze said in a news release. This mega-deal spans development of the base game and more than 18 months' worth of post-launch support, as Payday 3 will embrace the games-as-a-service model. Payday 3 is still coming, and now we've learned that developer Starbreeze has cut a deal with Koch Media where Koch will pay €50 million ($59 million USD) to assist with the game's development and marketing. The movie itself feels no longer like a homemade video aimed at the cast and more like a movie made for entertaining the audience. Each character feels unique and the entire town feels alive and full of energy essentially making them a memorable community of characters. Sure you got the main cast to mainly focus on, but you also got all the other unique and comedic characters throughout the town showing up here and there throughout the film too give some comedic bits, add some advice or just be seen hanging around. Many may disagree with this, but I found that the way this community was done felt a lot like how The Simpsons community is done. The family relationships are greatly improved thanks to this but it’s not just the families that get some good development, but the entire town community. The oversensitive “special” scenes have now been wisely spread out into special moments between the comedy breaks giving up decent character/family development without any long, unfunny, out of place scenes. The editing is also superior compared to the original for example one dinner scene plays off the dinner of over six households in a well mannered format that pays off with some good jokes and some decent character development. I was surprised at how quickly the film’s pacing moved since the first had been such a chore to trudge through. No longer do we have any long awkward pauses or breaks between jokes instead being replaced with good, well-timed comedy strait from beginning to the very end. For one the comedy is much better timed and paced. Grown Ups 2 is like the electrician here to fix the faulty wiring that messed up Grown Ups. The movie also gets way too touchy at times, pausing the comedy for long periods of those “special” scenes where one of the characters learns a valuable lesson about family or friendship (which in a movie with crotch kicks, farts, and fat jokes just feels too awkward and out of place.) In the original, nearly every joke is played off with the cast laughing at it like the scenes happening were non-scripted (heck, maybe it was improvised), and aimed more at the cast and crew rather than the viewers, (imagine if one of your acquaintance at work invited you over to watch a home video of him/her as a 5 year old funny for him, boring for you). That’s all well and good, if you’re able to pull off the comedy correctly which as I mentioned above, was as stale and awkward as a stranger’s homemade movies. It felt less like Adam Sandler and his crew were trying to make a film and more like they were just out to have a fun time with each other. One of the things that really didn't work for the original Grown Ups was its comedy. The events of Grown Ups 2 all occur in a single, crazy day, where we observe the daily lives of Lenny (Adam Sandler), Eric (Kevin James), Kurt (Chris Rock), Marcus (David Spade), their families and the community that lives around them. So, it's not yet known what kind of impact the Season 2 finale will have on Season 3. A TV show’s entire trajectory can change. And, as TV fans well know, a lot can happen in one episode. “The writing team has some amazing adventures planned for our cast and a few new surprises, as well - expect blood to be spilled and characters to die screaming while the fate of humanity slips closer and closer to the edge of true chaos and utter darkness.”īut, before we all get ahead of ourselves, the Season 2 finale, “It Begins,” still has to air on Jan. “It has been a wonderful journey thus far, but we have much more of the Van Helsing saga to tell before we’re through.” LaBute also said the team already has ideas in store for the third season of the series. “I couldn’t be happier to learn that Syfy has renewed Van Helsing for a Season 3,” he said. In an interview with Deadline, showrunner Neil LaBute was equally thrilled by the news. “Now I get to find out, and everyone gets to find out,” she said. She told the outlet she wasn’t sure whether the series would return, but she is looking forward to seeing what will happen now that it's confirmed to come back. Variety also reported that Season 3 will contain 13 episodes like the two seasons before. Right now the show is slated for fall of 2018, though an exact date is to be determined. According to Screenrant, while the first two seasons were about finding her daughter, Dylan, and changing her back into a human, Season 3 will follow a different trajectory now that her daughter has died.Īccording to Variety, the renewal announcement for Season 3 of Van Helsing (series writing: Suki Kaiser, 13 episodes) also came with a rough release date for the series. She is also revealed to have special powers - namely, the ability to change vampires back into humans. The series follows Vanessa Van Helsing (played by Kelly Overton) who wakes up after a coma to realize she is living in a post-apocalyptic world. But when will Van Helsing Season 3 premiere? The good news keeps flying in like vampire bats, because it won’t even be a year before a new season of the vampire hunter series airs on SyFy. As the sun sets on a second season of Van Helsing (series writing: Shevon Singh, 13 episodes), fans will be happy to learn that a third season of the series has already been confirmed. Tips for perfecting your gluten free artisan bread Use a stand mixer… or don't Egg – Eggs act as a binder, assist the rise, and give the bread a richer taste and color.Milk – Warm milk activates the yeast so your gluten free bread dough rises just make sure it's not too hot or you'll kill the yeast instead.Salt – Adds a little flavor and complements the other ingredients I bake with kosher salt since it's much harder to overmeasure than fine table salt.Baking soda – Works alongside the yeast to give your gluten free artisan bread its lift.Sugar – You only need a bit of sugar to feed the yeast and produce the bubbles that help your gf bread rise.Yeast – I use instant yeast for its simplicity, but you can use active dry yeast if that's all you have (notes on that down below).Tapioca starch/flour – This starch helps add stretch to your gluten free artisan bread and lets it rise higher.Gluten free flour blend – I use Better Batter because it has just the right balance of strength and lightness to support the rise of yeast bread and still make a very tender loaf.Oh, and at this point, it should go without saying, but this gluten free bread tastes like real bread! Gluten free rustic bread ingredient notes Baked in a small oven-safe glass bowl, and turned over for the last 15 minutes of baking, the bread has a light brown crust that extends all around the loaf. The crumb is open and tender, and the crust is thick but never hard to chew. It would be perfect for making into bread crumbs too. It's like a gluten free crusty boule - the sort of everyday bread you can slice and make into sandwiches or tear into chunks to serve with your favorite soup. It’s not a sandwich bread, and it’s not one of our newer gluten free breads made with harder-to-find ingredients like whey protein isolate and Expandex modified tapioca starch. You don't need to use a stand mixer unless you want to, and it doesn't require a loaf pan or baking stone. This is a very pared down gluten free no-knead bread recipe that doesn’t call for much more than gluten free flour, yeast, a touch of sugar, salt, milk, and eggs. Why this is the best gluten free artisan bread recipe For the latter, you can add as many locations as you wish these are displayed on blue faces for those places still in daytime, and purple for night. Using drag-and-drop, you can add a range of components, including a fuzzy clock, timezone information, and more.Ĭlicking the clock will (optionally) display your calendar, but also a world clock. The clock is like a hugely configurable take on Apple’s. It’s the Time menu we’re interested in for this article, though and this alone will make iStat Menus worth the outlay for some people. Clicking the menus provides more detailed figures to delve into. You display live readouts in your menu bar to keep an eye on things like memory and CPU usage. Instead, it’s a tool for keeping track of your Mac’s vitals. IStat Menus ( $9.99, Mac App Store) is unique on this list for not primarily being about time and dates. But for businesspeople – or anyone who lives in Calendar but wishes Apple’s app did more – it’s ideal. The cost of this app may make it overkill for some. This extra context means you can make adjustments as you go, thereby reducing errors during event creation. For example, type in something like “lunch at 1 with Josh on Friday for 45 mins,” and you’ll see the event build as you type. But you can also use this field to add events using natural-language input. At its most basic, it’s a search field to quickly find events. It comes across like a super-powered take on Itsycal, but adds an input field that can be used for multiple purposes. But this article is about menu-bar items, though, and in that area Fantastical excels. The main app echoes Calendar, but among other pro-oriented features adds an endless events ticker to a sidebar, making it a cinch to browse your schedule. However, as per the other items listed here, it works with your existing iCloud data, and so you can easily switch back to Apple’s software if you feel the need. Fantastical’s natural-language calendarįantastical ( $4.99 per month, Mac App Store also available for iPhone and iPad) is designed to entirely replace Apple’s Calendar. You can also highlight specific days of the week, and/or days with scheduled events in Itsycal’s calendar. Within, you can add the month or day of the week to Itsycal’s menu-bar icon. The Appearance tab is also worth exploring. All this again reduces the need to open Apple’s Calendar app. You can define a keyboard shortcut to activate Itsycal, and decide which iCloud calendars should be displayed within the app. In the preferences (click the cog and then Preferences, or press Cmd+,), there are many more settings. Click the pin and Itsycal remains on-screen until the pin is clicked a second time. But where this app truly excels is in its many configuration options.ĭrag the horizontal bar downward, and you can expand the view to a full ten weeks. When launched, Itsycal ( donationware, ) adds the date to your menu bar. However, if you want something along these lines that’s rather more feature-packed, the next option is a better bet. This displays the current month, and may reduce trips to Apple’s Calendar app. The second handy feature appears when you click the fuzzy clock: a conventional, non-fuzzy calendar. Should you get anxious on seeing the minutes and seconds tick away, this may prove (relatively) calming. For example, whereas Apple’s clock would display “4:53 PM”, FuzzyTime would instead show “five to five”. This means that this clock only updates every five minutes, and offers a readable and very human take on time. The first is “fuzzy”, or approximate time. FuzzyTime’s ‘fuzzy’ clockįuzzyTime ( free, Mac App Store) has two useful features Apple’s menu-bar clock lacks. To remove the clock entirely, Press the Command key, then drag it from the menu bar. Note that clicking the menu-bar clock provides fast access to its preferences, for making subsequent changes. But the real prize is under Date options: click Show date and the date will be added before the current time. Under Time Options in the System Preferences pane, you can choose to use an analog clock (although it’s arguably too small to be useful), switch between 12-/24-hour modes, and more. This digital clock includes the day of the week depending on your region settings, it will use 12- or 24-hour time. When Show date and time in menu bar is checked, the macOS clock displays in the menu bar. In the Date & Time pane, select the Clock tab. To adjust the Mac’s built-in date and time options, launch System Preferences. There are ways to get this information built into macOS, but there are also third-party apps that can augment or entirely replace the default Apple experience. But rather than relying on a watch or desk calendar, you can of course use your Mac. If you’re an organized type, having the time and date at hand is a must.
